Why the medium of animation?  What can you do in animation that you cannot do in Live Action or a different medium?

I've always been fascinated by the endless possibilities and boundless creativity that animation offers. The idea of defying physics, turning dreams into reality, and twisting logic to create new worlds is incredibly appealing. Unlike live action, which is limited by the physical world, animation gives me the freedom to explore any idea in any way I can imagine. It’s the perfect medium for expressing myself and conveying abstract emotions through fantastical storytelling.

What are you currently working on?

I'm currently working on my capstone CG project, Mors. It's a story about a goddess who watches over and rescues her people from a post-apocalyptic world, all brought to life with poetic visuals and a hint of impressionism.

What future projects do you see yourself creating and why?

Looking ahead, I'm excited to explore a range of projects—from title sequences and interactive experiences to short commercials. I lean toward short-form content for its creative freedom, yet I'm also open to venturing into longer formats like feature films.

What are some of the highlights of your time in the John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts?

The people in this program have made a profound impact on me. It’s been wonderful getting to know my classmates and professors. Everyone is extremely supportive and is always there to hype you up. I’ve really enjoyed viewing my talented classmates’ work. It’s been fun seeing what innovative and funny ideas they come up with. I don’t think other majors get to laugh as much as we do when we do our homework. Unlike other majors at USC, the animation division is quite small and tight-knit. It’s nice being able to say “hi” to familiar faces around every corner of the animation building. From collaborating with other students on their films, I’ve been able to form long lasting friendships beyond the classroom.

Why attend USC?

My time in the Hench division is filled with cherished memories. I'm incredibly grateful to Mike, Candace, Jordan, and everyone who supported me along the way. Their encouragement enabled me to contribute to some exciting projects—such as Rhythms + Visions / Expanded + Live 4 and Wired for Wonder: Multisensory Maze. Alongside these collaborative efforts, I also had the opportunity to work on some personal projects that I'm truly proud of.

What advice would you give someone who is thinking about applying to the John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts?

Being true to yourself and expressing your unique artistic voice is what matters most! No matter which path you choose for your future career, when you're prepping your portfolio, make sure it not only showcases your skills but also highlights your unique flair and your vision in storytelling. And don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone every now and then. You’ll be amazed at what you can learn and accomplish by trying something new!
