Gaz Alazraki ’01 is set to direct the Warner Bros’ reboot of Father of the Bride. This rendition of the classic story will revolve around a Cuban-American family where the father has to come to grips with his daughter’s upcoming wedding. 

Judd Apatowwill produce a comedy that is based on the lives of the comedy writing duo Kenny Lucas and Keith Lucas (Judas and the Black Messiah) at Universal.  

Carla Banks-Waddles ’00 inked an overall deal with NBCUniversal. She is currently the co-executive producer for NBC’s Good Girls and wrote the drama pilot At That Age which is currently in development. 

Bryant Barile ’16 was promoted to an agent in the CAA’s motion picture literary department that is based in Los Angeles.

Caroline Bongrandwrote the feature screenplay Eiffel. The romantic drama releases in France early spring. 

Janet Graham Borba ’89 assumed the role of EVP, Productions for HBO and HBO Max.

Jon M. Chu ’03 will direct the film adaptation of popular Broadway musical Wicked for Universal Studios.

Ryan Coogler ’11 and his Proximity Media banner signed on to a five-year overall exclusive television deal with Disney. In addition to returning as director to the sequel of Black Panther, Coogler will also work on a Disney+ series that focuses on the characters and the fictional world of Wakanda.

Dave Erickson ’97 inked an overall deal with MRC Television. As part of the deal, Erickson will develop a series adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, The Jaunt. 

America Ferrera ’13 will make her feature directorial debut with the adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter. Linda Yvette Chavez ’07 adapted the screenplay. 

Frank Flowers ’01 and Joe Ballarini ’99 wrote The Bluffwhich is set to star Zoe Saldana. Flowers will also serve as director on the Netflix drama flick.

Mike Gan ’08 and Matt Reeves ’88 will collaborate on the Netflix project Dead of Winter. The Black List survival thriller is written by Sarah Conradt-Kroehler and follows a family whose vacation in the mountains becomes a fight for survival when they encounter a dangerous criminal on the run. 

Fernando Garcia ‘99 was named Executive Vice President, Member Relations and Awards by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

ShainaGhuraya ’20 wrote and will direct AGG, a dark romantic comedy. The project won the prestigious SF Film Rainin grant, and production will begin early 2022.

Al Gough ’94 and Miles Millar ’94 will write the series based on the iconic Addams Family character Wednesday Addams for Netflix. Jonathan Glickmanwill executive produce with Tim Burton on board to direct. 

Evan Hayes ’02 will executive produce the reboot of the sitcom Maggie. ABC picked up the pilot and 20th Television will produce.

Soo Hugh ’06 inked an overall deal with UCP to develop, write, and produce projects for the studio.

William Kwok ’08 and Tulica Singh were selected into the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive program. William was the recipient of the Sundance Institute Asian American Fellowship whereas Tulica was selected for the Sundance Institute Comedy Central Comedy Fellowship. 

Michael Ireland ’99 assumed the role of co-president of Paramount Pictures with former New Line Cinema exec DariaCercek. As co-president, Michael will oversee the studio’s slate and film production of franchises such as Transformers and Star Trek. 

Leslie Lehr ’82 wrote the pop culture memoir A Boob’s Life: How America’s Obsession Shaped Me—and You. The book will also be developed into a comedy series for HBO Max through Salma Hayek’s banner, Ventanarosa, with Lehr on board as executive producer. 

Shawn Levy ’94 will produce Crater for Disney+ through his 21 Laps Entertainment banner. Crater is a coming-of-age sci-fi story set on a moon colony.  

Gerard McMurray’ 11 will write, direct, and produce The Formula through his production company, Buppie Productions. John Boyega and Rober DeNiro are slated to star in this Netflix project with fellow USC alum Jason Michael Berman ’06 on board as executive producer. McMurraywill also executive produce and direct the adaptation of The Spook Who Sat By the Door for FX. 

Zahir McGhee ’09 is set to executive produce Smokelandfor Freeform. The single-camera comedy is written by fellow executive producer Jewel Coronel and follows Solo as she navigates life between her family, friends, and the cannabis industry. 

Elizabeth Newman ’05 will serve as Vice President, Creative Acquisitions for Disney Television Studios and will oversee securing rights to books, podcasts, news stories and other IP that can be developed by ABC Signature and 20th Television. 

Dayna Lynne North ’95 inked a two-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television under her company, Loud Sis Productions. The deal will partner her with fellow alumni Jason Clodfelter ’00 and Glen Adilman ’90, Co-President and EVP of Comedy Development at SPT, to create and develop new shows across all platforms. She will also write and executive produce a limited dramedy series that is a part of the popular Universal film franchise The Best Man for Peacock titled The Best Man: The Final Chapters.

Tracy Oliver ’10 signed an overall deal with Apple to develop and produce diverse and meaningful projects via her Tracy Yvonne Productions banner. She also wrote the reunion comedy Homecoming which was acquired by Sony Pictures. 

Channing Godfrey Peoples ’11 signed a first-look deal with UCP to write, produce, and direct projects for the studio. And as part of the deal, she will also develop the TV adaptation of her critically acclaimed film, Miss Juneteenth. 

Natalie Qasabian ’14 received the 2021 Sundance Institute / Amazon Studios Producer Award for Fiction Filmmaking for her film Run.

MomitaSenGupta ’92 assumed the role of EVP, Physical Production at Lucasfilms. 

Chad Stahelskiis attached to direct and produce the film adaptation of popular PlayStation action-adventure game, Ghost of Tsushima. Fellow alumnus Peter Kang ’96 will oversee the project as executive producer. 

Max Taxe ’11 wrote the short story Ripple, to which Netflix has acquired the film rights. Shawn Levy ’94 will be producing the project through 21 Laps Entertainment. 

Juel Taylor ’15 and Tony Rettenmaier ’15 received a 10-episode series order from BET+ for their high school dramedy series Birth of Cool. Mark R. Wright ’17 will oversee the project for Macro Television Studios. Chris Van Dusen ’03 received a second season renewal for his period drama series Bridgerton from Netflix. The series has been watched by over 63 million households since its debut on Christmas Day of last year. Fellow USC alumni Shonda Rhimes ’94 and Jonathan Igla ’05 were attached as Executive Producer and Co-Executive Producer in the show’s premiere season.

Felipe Vargas ’20 wrote the script for the hourlong drama, Loteria. Norman Lear and Brent Miller are set to executive produce alongside fellow SCA alumni Alberto Belli ’12 and Juan Pablo Reyes ’15.

Pam Veasey ’84 will develop Long Slow Exhale for Spectrum Originals and BET. The drama is set to star Rose Rollins and explores the high-stakes world of women’s basketball.

Anna Zlokovic ’14 will co-write and direct a feature with Erik Feig’sPicturestart and Endeavor Content financing the project, and Automatik Entertainment producing. Shooting is set to start later this year.
